Boreholes are routinely advanced to 50+ m depending on project needs, with logging, sampling, and testing all carried out in line with the latest Australian Standards.

     

    Our engineers bring strong local knowledge and extensive field experience, managing every component of an investigation from start to finish. This includes coordinating contractors, SPTs and push-tube sampling, installing groundwater monitoring wells, and scheduling field and laboratory testing to ensure reliable data and smooth project delivery.

  • Opifex provides efficient, cost-effective investigations for residential and commercial sites that do not require deep foundations. Using a combination of augering, window sampling, DCP and PSP testing, we develop reliable ground models to support site classification and footing design.

    Where required, we also collect samples for acid sulfate soil (ASS) screening, install groundwater monitoring points, and conduct field permeability testing to guide drainage and site preparation. These focused investigations give builders, designers, and developers practical guidance.

  • Opifex offers a full range of pile testing and proof-loading services, following recognised best-practice techniques and benefiting from the technical guidance of Professor Barry Lehane, a key contributor to Australian pile design codes.

    Our services include vertical and lateral load reaction testing, hydraulic jacking, load measurement, displacement monitoring, Thermal Integrity Profiling (TIP), and Pile Integrity Testing (PIT). We have successfully delivered major pile testing campaigns for Metronet and the Stephenson Avenue Extension in Perth, providing reliable results, reporting, and sign-offs to keep projects on track and compliant.

  • Opifex delivers geotechnical field services for mining and remote infrastructure projects. A notable example is our work at BHP’s West Musgrave Project (WMP), where we carried out a substantial investigation for the Northern Borefield Water Supply System – a key ~38 km water supply corridor for long-term operations.

    Our scope included shallow drilling, DCP testing, thermal resistivity measurements, and groundwater investigations across the pipeline and TSF areas. This provided BHP with essential information on ground conditions, excavatability, trench stability, backfill suitability, and foundation performance. The project was completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with current Australian Standards and BHP requirements.

  • Opifex provides end-to-end earthworks verification for residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects. Our engineers carry out compaction testing, PSP/DCP assessments, fill validation, and onsite inspection to ensure earthworks meet design and performance requirements. We work closely with contractors to resolve issues quickly and keep projects on schedule.

    A recent Bunbury project demonstrates our approach: swampy, acid sulphate-affected ground was consolidated using a targeted preload and surcharging strategy, avoiding large-scale excavation and backfilling – delivering a stable, cost-effective platform for construction.
