Nangetty Walkway Bridge

Foundation Pile Design

Opifex was engaged to optimise the foundation solution for the new Nangetty Walkaway Bridge, replacing the existing four‑span structure with a more efficient, modern three‑span design. Through a detailed reassessment of the preliminary pile design, Opifex engineered a more economical foundation system, reducing the required pile lengths while maintaining full compliance with axial and lateral capacity requirements.

Using CPT‑based methods and international design standards, Opifex developed revised, more efficient pile embedment depths, significantly reducing steel and installation effort.

Subsequent pile driving observations and PDA testing confirmed the reliability of the optimised design, verifying that all installed piles achieved or exceeded their required geotechnical capacities.

The redesign delivered direct cost savings to the client, while ensuring robust long‑term performance of the new bridge foundations. Additional dynamic testing on selected concreted piles was recommended purely as a final validation step due to minor, local ground variability identified during driving.

The project showcases Opifex’s ability to combine advanced geotechnical modelling, on‑site verification and practical engineering to produce efficient, reliable and cost‑effective foundation solutions for critical infrastructure.
